EARTH SCIENCE From Flat Earth to Planetary Tectonics The display exhibit follows the early mapping of the earth’s surface and the resulting development of the Theory of Continental Drift and the more recent scientific application of Plate Tectonics. The influence of Alfred Wegener (1880-1930), who first proposed Continental Drift in 1915, is traced, and the defence of his theory is discussed. Wegener's untimely death in 1930 put advocacy for the idea in abeyance for three lost decades. The deep-sea drilling observations and extensive echo sounding (SONAR) seafloor mapping of the 1960s resulted in the verification of Wegener's ideas and the rise of the Science of Plate Tectonics to explain the forces involved in the Earth's processes. Understanding the earth, its processes, 4.5 billion year history, present status and prospects are essential to everyone.

France 1934: Anti-Tuberculosis “Stamp” Campaign Calmette passed away in 1933 at 70 years old. In Paris, the Comité National de Défense Contre la Tuberculose launched its 8th National Anti-Tuberculosis "Stamp" Campaign the following year in homage to Calmette. His portrait, used on the labels, was engraved by Henri Lucien Cheffer (1880-1957), well known for his fine engravings produced for French postage stamps. Nestlé, the Swiss food and beverage firm famous for baby formula, was a big supporter of the anti-TB 'Stamp' campaign. Its logotype appears in the label selvage, booklet covers, and on glassine envelopes. Larger labels were sold in glassine envelopes.
