CPS 2022 BNAPEX Local Attractions

Calgary, Alberta, a beautiful city located on the banks of the Bow and Elbow Rivers, just 60 minutes from the Rocky Mountains, or just a short 3 1/2 hour drive from Edmonton. The Okanagan is 7 hours away while Vancouver is about 11 hours. Flying is the best travel mode coming from other places. With amenities such as dining, luxurious accommodations and a wealth of four-season outdoor activities, the city has the best of both worlds.

Things to do in the immediate Calgary area

 1.  Heritage Park: in southwest Calgary has steam trains, paddle wheeler, and an early western town.
 2.  National Music Centre - Studio Bell newly opened in the fall of 2018 this modern facility a 10-15 minute walk east of the hotel has fascinating interactive exhibits relating to the history of music - a fascinating place to visit.
 3.  Telus Spark World of Science newly opened in the fall of 2011 this modern facility near the Calgary Zoo has fascinating interactive exhibits.
 4.   Calgary Zoo located on the Bow River just east of downtown (hop on the C-Train) has great animal displays
 5.  GlobalFest: is an incredible cultural experience that takes place 18-27 August. Events including six different nights of fireworks competition, cultural pavilions with ethnic foods and presentations.
 6.  Museums: the Glenbow (art but closed until 2023), the Military Museums, the Aero Space Museum, Canada's Sports Hall of Fame, and the Art Gallery of Calgary.
 7.  Bike, Raft, Walk: along the bike trails or on the Bow or Elbow rivers. CalgaryWalks is Calgary's walking tour company.  8.  Arts Common: is a cultural centre with plays and shows just down the street from the hotel.
 9.  Inglewood Bird Sanctuary is a great place to watch birds that is 10 minutes from downtown on the Bow River. Great place to go for early morning or evening bird watching.
 10.  World Heritage: Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks: Travel 60 to 90 minutes west to get to the Rocky mountains and go hiking or view nearby sites. Walk on the Columbia Icefields (3 hours from Calgary), see the famous Canadian Pacific Spiral tunnels.  11.  Shopping: The convention is in the heart of downtown Calgary - stroll the mall of Stephen Avenue and shop at the many stores - there is NO provincial sales tax here.
 12.  Drumheller: The Royal Tyrell Museum is about a 2 hour drive east of Calgary and is a world class museum for Dinosaurs
 13.  World Heritage: Dinosaur Provincial Park (2 hours east)
